1. NEFT/ RTGS

NEFT (National Electronic Fund Transfer) is an interbank payment system run by the RBI. Individuals can use this system to electronically transfer monies from any bank branch or channel to any other individual who has an account with any other bank branch in the nation that participates in the programme.

RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) is the continuous and real-time settlement of financial transactions on a transaction-by-transaction basis, without netting or grouping. Real Time refers to the processing of instructions as they are received. Gross Settlement refers to the individual settlement of fund transfer orders. RTGS transactions are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NEFT/RTGS service at Post Offices/Online

a. Account holders can use NEFT/RTGS across the counter at Post Offices:

Walk-in clients can use the NEFT/ RTGS service by visiting any Post Office. The following are the characteristics:

  1. The customer must have an active Post Office Savings Account in order to begin NEFT transfers to other bank accounts.
  2. The account holder is not required to activate the Net-banking capability in the system.
  3. The account holder will provide a completed NEFT/RTGS mandate form, as well as a withdrawal slip (SB-7) or POSB check, over the counter at the Post Office.
  4. In the event of a Joint ‘A’ type account, both account holders must sign the NEFT mandate form.
  5. Service costs for each NEFT/RTGS transaction initiated at a Post Office counter will be charged from the SB Account.
